Finding Healing and Strength in God’s Love

In the journey of life, we often encounter moments of deep pain and trauma. These experiences can leave us feeling overwhelmed and lost, searching for solace and strength. But in the midst of our struggles, we can find comfort and healing in the unwavering love of God. Today, I want to share my story of overcoming trauma and how God has been my refuge and strength through it all.

My Story of Trauma and Healing: Growing up, I faced numerous challenges and traumas that shaped my early years. From experiencing abuse in foster care,to losing my precious daughter to SIDS, my heart has known deep sorrow. Each of these experiences left scars, but they also led me to a profound understanding of God's love and His ability to heal even the deepest wounds.

One verse that has been particularly meaningful to me is Matthew 11:28, where Jesus says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” This promise has been a beacon of hope in my darkest times. When the weight of my pain felt unbearable, I turned to God, and He provided the rest and peace my soul desperately needed. I am who I am today, because of the strength God gave me in my darkest times.

God as Our Safe Place: In the midst of trauma, it's easy to feel isolated and alone. In fact, Satan wants you to feel alone. Satan understands that there is strength and power in numbers so he wants nothing more than to isolate us. But God assures us that He is our safe place, our refuge. Psalm 46:1 reminds us, "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble." No matter what we face, we can find comfort in knowing that God is always with us, ready to provide shelter and strength.

One of the most profound aspects of God's love is His ability to cover us with His grace. In times of trauma, we often feel exposed and vulnerable, but God's love is like a protective covering that shields us from further harm. He understands our pain and meets us right where we are, offering a safe space to heal and grow.

The Importance of Self-Care: As we navigate our healing journey, it's essential to prioritize self-care. Taking time for ourselves allows us to reconnect with God and find the rest we need. Jesus' invitation in Matthew 11:28 is a call to practice self-care and trust in His provision for our well-being.

Here are a few self-care practices that have helped me in my healing journey:

  1. Prayer and Meditation: Spending quiet time in prayer and meditation helps me center my thoughts and find peace in God's presence.

  2. Reading Scripture: Reflecting on God's promises in the Bible strengthens my faith and provides comfort during difficult times.

  3. Journaling: Writing down my thoughts and feelings allows me to process my emotions and see how God is working in my life.

  4. Connecting with Loved Ones: Surrounding myself with supportive friends and family members reminds me that I am not alone in my journey.

  5. Rest and Relaxation: Taking breaks and allowing myself to rest helps me recharge and maintain a healthy balance in life.

No matter what trauma you may be facing, remember that God is with you. He is your safe place, your refuge, and your strength. In His love, you can find healing and rest. Take time for yourself today and trust in His promise: "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Allow God's love to cover you and provide the peace your soul needs.
