Faith vs. Fear: How I Found Strength After Loss

Grief will shake everything you thought you knew—about God, about yourself, about life. But it doesn’t have to destroy your faith.

In 2011, I experienced the unimaginable: the loss of my daughter to SIDS. She was five months old. And in a single moment, everything changed.

I was broken. Numb. Angry. And I was terrified that I’d never find joy again.

But something in me knew I had two choices: live in fear or lean into faith.

Here’s What Helped Me Choose Faith:

  1. I Stopped Pretending I Was Okay
    Faith doesn’t mean faking strength. I had to stop performing and start healing. I cried out to God with all the raw, messy emotions I had—and He met me there.

  2. I Remembered Who God Is, Even When I Didn’t Understand Why
    I didn’t need all the answers. I needed assurance. God didn’t abandon me—He sustained me. I stood on His Word, even when my heart didn’t feel it. (Psalm 34:18)

  3. I Let My Pain Have a Purpose
    My healing didn’t happen overnight. But as I leaned into coaching, writing, and ministry, I realized that what I went through wasn’t wasted. The trauma was necessary for the transformation.

  4. I Chose to Speak Life, Even Through Tears
    Speaking life over myself—even when I didn’t believe it—shifted my atmosphere. “I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living” became more than a verse. It became my fight song.

Faith Doesn’t Cancel Out Fear—It Just Says Fear Doesn’t Win

There are still moments where the pain returns. But it no longer defines me. It refined me. And now I use that pain to help other women find their way out of the dark.
