My Journey from Foster Care to Empowerment.

Growing up in foster care and experiencing abuse shaped my early years in ways that left deep scars. It taught me to be wary of trusting others, to build walls around my heart, and to rely solely on myself for survival. But through my journey of healing, I transformed these painful experiences into a powerful source of strength and purpose. Today, I use my story to empower other women through my coaching business, CoachHER Life, providing them with the support and tools they need to heal and thrive.

My Early Years in Foster Care

I was born while my mom was in prison. From a young age, I was placed in foster care, moving from home to home and never truly feeling a sense of stability or security. The constant upheaval and the trauma of abuse made it difficult to trust adults. I learned to navigate life cautiously, always on guard and often feeling alone in my struggles.

The Impact of Abuse

The abuse I endured left both visible and invisible scars. It was a heavy burden that weighed on my heart and mind, shaping my view of the world and my place in it. Trust was a foreign concept, and fear became a constant companion. The pain and betrayal from those who were supposed to protect me created a barrier that felt insurmountable.

The Turning Point

Despite the challenges, there came a turning point in my life when I decided that I would not let my past define my future. I began seeking ways to heal, understanding that I deserved a life filled with hope and possibility. This decision marked the beginning of a long, transformative journey.

Steps Toward Healing

Healing was not an overnight process; it was a journey with many ups and downs. Here are some crucial steps that helped me along the way:

  1. Seeking Professional Help: I reached out to therapists and support groups who understood the complexities of trauma. Their guidance and empathy were instrumental in my healing process.

  2. Building a Support Network: Finding people who genuinely cared about my well-being and who I could trust was vital. This included friends, mentors, and eventually, a community of like-minded women who had faced similar struggles.

  3. Practicing Self-Care: Self-care became a cornerstone of my healing. Activities like journaling, meditation, and exercise helped me reconnect with myself and healthily process my emotions.

  4. Embracing Vulnerability: I wrote a book about my life called “The Trauma Was Necessary.” Learning to be vulnerable and share my story with others was incredibly healing. It allowed me to break down the walls I had built and foster deeper connections with those around me.

  5. Finding Purpose: Channeling my pain into a purpose-driven life was the most transformative step. I founded CoachHER Life to help other women navigate their paths of healing and empowerment.
